Veteran Owned
Our Story
Why We Built This
Awaken Inside was born in 2020 and opened its doors in Summer 2021 — not as a business first, but as a mission. Two veterans who believed that most gyms were missing something essential: the belief that real transformation is internal.
Physical fitness is the output. Mindset, accountability, and discipline are the inputs. We built a gym that trains both — a place where the standard is excellence and the culture is one of service, resilience, and community.
Within our first year, we earned Best Gym Facility and Best Personal Training Studio in Virginia Beach. We're the highest-rated gym in Hampton Roads. But the real measure is what happens to the people who walk through our doors.
Meet the Owners
Co-Owner
Chris Jordan
Chris served 28 years in the U.S. Navy as an Intelligence Officer, including 12 years of enlisted service. He's married to Billy-Jo and the father of five children.
In 2019, the Jordan family became a Gold Star family following the loss of their son, CTN2 Thomas Jordan. Chris describes that moment as defining — not one that stopped them, but one that sharpened their resolve.
"Real strength starts internally — through mindset, accountability, and consistency. When the mind is aligned, the body follows."
Chris built Awaken Inside on the principles he lived in uniform: discipline, service, and resilience. The gym is his continued mission.
Co-Owner
Adam Rice
Adam served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999 to 2005. After the Corps, he earned his Bachelor's degree from UNC-Greensboro and an MBA from Elon University.
He brings 20 years of leadership experience managing multi-site operations across the Eastern U.S., leading teams ranging from 5 to 350 people — with emphasis on customer service, sales, and performance.
Adam is married to Kimberly, father to three daughters (Hayleigh, Hannah, and Adalynn), and grandfather to Mitchell. His family drives everything he does at Awaken Inside.
What We Stand For
Mindset First
Physical transformation follows mental transformation. We train the whole person — not just the body.
Service to Others
Rooted in military service, we give back to our community — from trash cleanups to supporting the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Relentless Discipline
Consistency beats intensity. We build habits that last — not quick fixes that fade. Show up. Put in the work. Repeat.
Be Part of Something Bigger
The Tribe is open to everyone willing to put in the work.
